EMS Billing

Brookfield EMS sends bills for each patient that we transport. Because we bill for services, Brookfield EMS is able to significantly reduce the amount of tax support that we require to maintain a first-class Emergency Medical System. This system allows us to recoup money from insurance companies before we ask for money from the tax payer.

Brookfield EMS does not set the rate that we are allowed to bill. In Connecticut, the Department of Public Health / Office of Emergency Medical Services sets annual billing rates for each agency. There are two aspects of this rate: the base rate and the per-mile rate. The base rate reflects the level and type of care provided to that patient. A per-mile rate is calculated based on the distance from the scene of the emergency to the hospital.

In the Town of Brookfield, billing is handled by Shared Response Health Systems, LLC.
