Proudly serving the Town of Brookfield since 1934

An open letter from the Fire Chief:

Greetings, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company’s website.  I hope you find it a valuable resource as citizens and visitors of the Town of Brookfield. The fire company was founded in 1934 and our core mission remains the same: service to our community. We achieve this through protecting civilians and their property from the ravages of fire, delivering a first-rate advanced life support emergency medical services program, providing a high-level continuing education training program for our emergency responders and maintaining our equipment and apparatus.

The BVFC has 72 uniformed Fire and EMS volunteers devoted to protecting life, property and the environment through their involvement in fire prevention, firefighting, technical rescue, emergency medical care, and community service. We are joined by our medical staff of 22 highly skilled Paramedics and EMTs who help us provide award-winning EMS care to our residents and visitors. They staff 2 ALS ambulances during the day with a third on-call Paramedic and 2 at night with an on-call Paramedic and a volunteer EMT. They are led by Deputy Chief of EMS Paramedic Wayne Woodtke, his Captains James Whiteside and Fraser Weir as well as Lieutenant Kiersten Lopes.

I believe in the fundamental principal that our members are the foundation of our organization. The fire company can be no better or stronger than its membership. Our Leadership team values the membership and collaborates with them in the design and implementation of the systems, procedures, equipment, apparatus and processes that form the framework of our organization.

I have the distinct honor of being the Fire Chief leading a group of well-disciplined and highly motivated firefighters and EMS personnel. They are all community-minded and mission-driven and their professionalism and skill level is unparalleled to any other organization I have interacted with. They all make my job easy and continue to make me proud as they serve our beautiful community. I am assisted by Assistant Fire Chief Jesse Fry and Assistant Chief Derek Broadmeyer as well as a cadre of outstanding Fire and EMS line officers.

Training is the single most important element for a safe, professional, and effective fire department. It is imperative that all members are properly trained on all aspects of firefighting to help safeguard his/her life, and the lives of those we serve in the community. Our members train every Monday night, and each average 120 hours of training every year.

I have the privilege of being the first “2nd generation” BVFC Fire Chief. My father Norman Ellis is a 52-year life member who served as Department Chief from 1986 to 1994. I, like many of my fellow officers and firefighters, “grew up” in the firehouse joining our parents doing chores around the firehouse and chasing calls as kids. I owe my vocation to my early exposure to the BVFC as it guided me to become a career firefighter with the City of Bridgeport in 1998 where I am currently the Captain of Tower Ladder 5.

Family has been and continues to be the cornerstone of the BVFC. Our roster boasts many second, third and fourth generation BVFC members. We have fathers and sons, mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, husband and wives and brothers working together in our company. We encourage our members to bring their children to the firehouse to see what we do and to become part of our “family”.

Once again, welcome to our website, and please contact us if you have any additional questions or have suggestions to improve our services to you.

Thank You,

Andrew Ellis
