Our Awesome E-ONE Pumper!!!

Take a peek… as it was being assembled… at our new “custom built”  E-ONE Pumper with a 1500 gpm pump and carrying 1000 gallons of water.  It was manufactured by the E-ONE Corporation and was delivered in March of 2012.

E-ONE is a worldwide designer and manufacturer of fire rescue vehicles with more than 20,000 vehicles in operation throughout the world.   They are headquartered in Ocala, Florida, and considered the industry leader in product innovations utilizing “new types of technology” for fire apparatus.  They not only manufacture pumpers and tankers but also manufacture aerial ladders, rescue apparatus, attack units, industrial trucks and aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles to meet the specific needs of fire departments, rescue squads, airports, security agencies and the military.

They pioneered the use of aluminum in fire rescue vehicles and continue to lead the industry today with innovative uses of this material.  Aluminum is used for several important reasons:

  • Aluminum is resistant to corrosion and will not rust like steel… resulting in a longer field life than trucks made of steel…
  • Aluminum is much lighter than steel…  meaning less wear and tear on the engine…
  • Less weight means more payload capacity… equipment and water…
  • The all-aluminum natural finish never needs painting… saving dollars in repaints…
  • The modular construction makes easy repairs… if the body it is ever damaged in an accident…

Aluminum is used in both the body plate and extrusions.  Extrusions are made by heating the aluminum and pushing it through a die to give it a shape.  After cooling the aluminum, the resulting extrusion is just as strong on a corner as is a flat surface.   A durable tongue and groove assembly is created which is then welded into place.  This interlocking of extrusions and tongue and groove assembly make an extremely strong but lightweight piece of fire apparatus.
